Threads of Time
She studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan) and at the Escuela Nacional de Danza Contemporánea (Caracas), and further developed her work under the guidance of Jannis Kounellis, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Vito Acconci, and Alberto Garutti. Her projects have been presented in Venezuela, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and the United States, including the Venice Biennale, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia (MACZUL), the Arturo Michelena Biennial, the Miami New Media Festival, and Art Palm Beach.
Her most recent project, Threads of Time, was presented at MIFA (Miami International Fine Arts) in August 2025, curated by Marcos Carida. Conceived as a performative and audiovisual installation, the work positions the body as archive, language, and resistance. It combines performance, video projection, photography, and painting to explore the tension between scientific time and existential time, in dialogue with Bergson and Heidegger. In collaboration with Liang Lansi, Arvelo interwove video fragments with memory-charged materials, producing a three-channel installation.
The piece was awarded First Prize at MIFA’s Annual Residency Exhibition, granted by a jury chaired by Nuria Richard, director of the Clandestina fair, who also invited Arvelo to present the work at its upcoming edition.
Arvelo currently lives and works in Miami, where she was selected for a residency at the Miami International Art Fair. Her practice affirms the inseparability of art and life, situating the body as both archive and site of experience.
